I have a long week of typing at work — we are paginating the new catalog, and typing paginations to a copy writer is like data entry to whomever does data entry. When I get to rote typing, I need good music. And I am at the point where I need some new stuff for my iPod.
A few guidelines:
1. Should be pretty rocking and/or upbeat.
2. I like a lot of different kinds of music, but here’s what I don’t like: classic rock; classical music (I’m completely uncultured in my husband’s eyes); reggae; jam bands; death metal; heavy metal; soul music.
3. My current top ten artists: Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Wilco, Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Green Day, Pearl Jam, The Raconteurs, Sheryl Crow, M.I.A.
Hit me with your best shot.

Okay, I’ve been JAMMING this morning. Try Tantric — Down and Out. (I’m blasting Mourning right now, but it’s more low-key. “Beauty thus becomes…”)
Drowning Pool — 37 Stitches
Apocalyptica — Burn’s my fave, but if you need vocals, try I’m not Jesus and I Don’t Care
3 Doors Down — Duck and Run
Holler if you need more. I skew heavier than you do, but these are pretty general, laid-back (for me) rocker songs. I think you’ll like them.

Those groups do fall into a heavier category, but I’ll try to give them a listen. Thanks!

Florence + The Machine– Brit band. Listen to “Dog Days are Over” and you’ll buy the whole album. At least, I did.
Spoon– former Indie-rockstars, now more mainstream. “Small Stakes,” “You Got Your Cherry Bomb,” others. _Kill the Moonlight_ and _Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga_ are favorites of albums.
The Decemberists– See above. Get _Picaresque_; I like “The Infanta”, “We Both Go Down Together”.
Like your stuff.
albamaria30
I do love the Decemberists. They would be number 11!
I have heard great things about spoon; I’ll pick some up. And I’ll check out Florence + the Machine. Always looking for something fresh. Thanks for the suggestions!
spoon
aww thanks. yer swell too
Kim Z
I second Spoon. In fact, I’m seeing them on Thursday night!
Stacia
Have you ever listened to Gin Blossoms or Better Than Ezra? Two of my favorites. Also, John Mayer, though I try not to like him on principle.
albamaria30
I really like (liked?) Mayer’s music, but he’s turned into such a d-bag lately, I’m having trouble getting past it. The other two I’ve heard & I have to admit they haven’t rocked me.
To each her own, right?
Stacia
What about some Bananarama, Bangles or Go-Gos?? Too old-school? (Then there’s always the She’s Having a Baby soundtrack.) =>
albamaria30
@Stacia: I do love all those bands, but I have to admit, I really like staying abreast of the new stuff. I’m like a wanna-be-20-something punker (15-some years later). I’m kind of in denial.
I think I have the She’s Having a Baby soundtrack around here somewhere. I’ll have to get it loaded onto my iTunes.

I’m a bit out of the music loop right now, too, but Muse is popular with my friends. (And the song “New Born” really makes my kid spin and do his silly but pumping dance, which makes me like it, too.)
If you don’t mind something a bit more odd I recommend the Fiery Furnaces. I can think of few songs peppier than “Tropical Iceland”
Kim Z
That would be “butt” pumping dance BTW. I’m not sure where it came from, but it makes me laugh.
albamaria30
I love children’s reaction to music. Love it. It seems from the time they can coordinate body movements, they will groove to the beat! That sound adorable.
I’ll check out Muse. Thanks!
Kim Z
Try “Tropical Iceland” too. People either love Fiery Furnaces or find them annoying. It’s worth finding out what side you are on! (Sadly our friends are on the other side from us, which is why the considered us to see Margot and the Nuclear So-and-so’s on NYE in stead of FF. We have regretted falling to that peer pressure ever since as we obsessively wait for new FF Chicago dates.)

The TING TINGS! We Started Nothing…the whole album is GREAT!
albamaria30
I had remembered you mentioning them. they are going on the list! Thanks!
